improvisations/compositions inspired by GYÖRGY LIGETI's 10 pieces for woodwind quintet (1968) that in no way infringe upon any copyright [assholes]
JOHN CAGE's five (1988)
JOHN SHIURBA's 5x5-4/5 (2002)
untitled new work
The four pieces we will be performing remain within the composed-improvised boundaries while covering a broad range of the possibilities.
Improvisations/compositions inspired by GYÖRGY LIGETI's 10 pieces for woodwind quintet (1968) that in no way infringe upon any copyright [assholes]< uses traditional notation, graphic notation, and text instructions that blur the distinctions between composition, performance, interpretation, inspiration, and improvisation.
untitled new work for viola, clarinet, marimba, and acoustic guitar has been collaboratively composed during rehearsals through a kind of "rock band" method without any notation.
John Shiurba's 5x5 contains traditionally notated musical fragments separated by totally free improvised material.
The sounds in John Cage's five are fully notated, but their placement in time left to the players' discretion during the performance.
